Energy and water: electrochemistry in securing the sustainable society development
18-21 April 2021 Mikulov, Czech Republic

Dear colleagues,

as you have noted European countries are currently facing a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, including Czech Republic – hosting country of the 29th Topical Meeting. Under these circumstances, the ISE finds necessary to update you on the status of the organization of the Mikulov meeting and on the contingency plans prepared to mitigate the effect of the Covid – 19 pandemic on it.

As of now the ISE along with local organizers prepares the meeting assuming physical attendance of the delegates on site. The ISE, however, closely observes the epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries and is ready to switch the whole meeting to an online format should the epidemiological situation not improve. This decision on possible switch to online format will be taken 3 months before the planned start of the Meeting, i.e. by January 18th 2021. It will be immediately communicated to the registered participants and ISE members.

In the case that the Covid – 19 situation in the Czech Republic allows for the organization of conferences in the usual (presence) form the Meeting will take its usual form. The arrangement of the Meeting will indeed observed the strictest regulations ensuring the safety of all participants.

In the case the meeting moves online the following rules will apply:
i) all submissions will be automatically transferred for online meeting
ii) the meeting will be based on pre-recorded oral presentations with several live online Q and A sessions
iii) pre-recorded lectures will be aired at scheduled time (according to conference program) and will remain available to the registered participants during the whole week of the Meeting
iv) conference program including all live sessions will be scheduled in local time of Mikulov (time zone for Prague/Vienna)
v) poster presentations will be replaced by 10 minutes oral presentations; these presentations will not be aired, but will be available to registered participant during the whole week of the Meeting
vi) presenting authors will be responsible for solving all possible Copyright issues and will grant the ISE a license to their presentations under Creative Common License for the duration of the week of the Meeting

Please note that due to the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 situation the ISE decided to adjust the dates for Early registration as shown on the web. It also needs to be stressed that in the case of moving the Meeting online the Registration fees will be significantly lowered.

I understand that this news is rather disappointing, yet I believe you understand the circumstances which force us to adopt these measures.

I also hope that you will retain your support to the Meeting

Karel Bouzek
on the behalf of the Organizing Committee

You are cordially invited to join us in Mikulov, Czech Republic, from 18 to 21 April 2021 during the 29th Topical Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry. This meeting aims to bring together researchers representing a broad spectrum of scientists ranging from fundamental to industrial research in the fields of electrochemical phenomena and processes. The city of Mikulov is an excellent location for such an event. It has a rich history and long tradition of a multicultural community and moreover it is situated in the heart of the Pálava Protected Landscape Area, famous for its traditional wineries and attractive landscape. All this is complemented by opportunities for interesting visits to sites like the UNESCO World Heritage Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape and the protected Moravian Karst area. All these aspects add up to a relaxing, friendly atmosphere, generating a productive gathering and inspiring discussions.
